The very word "initiate" means "to begin" (1st definition in Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary). It's not that initiation is something one considers the end of devotional service endeavor, the culmination of years of devotion, the acquisition of a spiritual name being the result or ultimate climax of devotional service. It is but an initial step and an important step in one's long journey back to Godhead.
