We have heard and read about a suggestion that Srila Prabhupada name his society The International Society for God Consciousness. That suggestion was MINE. Well, at least I can count myself as “some friend” of Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada himself directly referred to this instance on more than one occasion. In November of 1972, he said this: “While I started this movement in America, some friend suggested that ‘You are writing “International Society for Krishna Consciousness.” Why not make it “God-consciousness.” It will be accepted by everyone.’ God is Krsna. There must, there must be clearly stated: ‘Krsna consciousness.’ I don’t mind if nobody accepts it, but there must be ‘Krsna.’ So actually it is very happy that Western countries, they are accepting Krsna.”
