Society, Friendship and Love

Rupa Goswami wrote that if you want to enjoy ‘friendship, society and love,’ then don’t look at that beautiful boy, standing on the bank of the Yamuna, playing his flute while smiling in His three-curved position on the bank of the Yamuna. Many poets have written of the glory of love, others have intimated its transitory, illusory nature. One of the best-expressed notions about the fleeting nature of love was written by Hart Crane when he wrote, “And so it was I entered the broken world To trace the visionary company of love, in voice An instant in the wind (I know not whither hurled), But not for long to hold each desperate choice.”
