In a 1971 lecture Srila Prabhupada said, “That is a statistic. The next death rate is for over-eating. In America is it not?” In his carefully researched book, “Fast Food Nation,” first printed in 2001, Eric Schlosser writes, “Obesity is now second only to smoking as a cause of mortality in the United States. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates that about 280,000 Americans die every year as a direct result of being overweight.”
