Srila Prabhupada’s teachings explain how forces of nature, like the wind, sun, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, cold snaps, forest fires, and storms, are the work of Krishna’s agents and cannot be properly forecasted or controlled. Every year there are “natural disasters” or “acts of God” in which people die and are displaced. And nothing in modern civilization, despite all its attempts, can change this. In 1906, earthquake and fire destroyed many districts of the city of San Francisco, including the central business district. “This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.” (BGAII 9.10)
