The Gopis give us an example of what modern people would call “cloning.” They went out to meet Krsna at night in their manifest spiritual bodies, leaving replicas of themselves lying by the sides of their husbands. Here is what Sukadeva Gosvami has written (translation by HH Hrdayananda and company): “The cowherd men, bewildered by Krsna’s illusory potency, thought their wives had remained home at their sides. Thus they did not harbor any jealous feelings against Him.” (10.33.37) In their purport to this verse, the translating team quotes Visvanatha Cakaravarti as saying, “The gopis’ jealous husbands consorted not with their wives but with doubles manufactured by Maya. Thus these men never actually had intimate contact with the divine ladies of Vraja.”
