Sometimes Hare Krishnas are accused of being narrow-minded. This thinking includes the notion that one cannot have a broad view of life unless one embraces ‘all of life.’ Krishna das Kaviraja shows that Lord Caitanya didn’t appreciate looking into too many spiritual options. Here is quote from Caitanya Caritamrita: “If one becomes a bookworm, reading many books and scriptures and hearing many commentaries and the instruction of many men, this will produce doubt within his heart. One cannot in this way ascertain the goal of life.” (Adi 16.12). In his book “Siksa Outside ISKCON?” Sivarama Swami, in a clear and scholarly way, refutes the principal arguments that one SHOULD take Siksa outside of ISKCON. I recommend this book.
