Srila Prabhupada commented that in traditional Vedic civilization, women parted their hair in ways that designated their status. Hair parted on the side indicated prostitute; hair parted in the middle indicated married woman. Similarly dress also depicted varnas and asramas. In kaliyuga, dress means virtually nothing.
