Yukta Vairagya

Perhaps Srila Prabhupada’s greatest contribution has been yukta vairagya as prescribed in this verse by Rupa Goswami: “nirbandhah krsna-sambandhe yuktam vairagyam ucyate.” Throughout his teachings Srila Prabhupada defines yukta vairagya as “proper renunciation.” The verse, in Rupa Goswami’s Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu is: anasaktasya visayan, yatharham upayunjatah nirbandhah krsna-sambandhe yuktam vairagyam ucyate. The unique contribution is that you can use anything in the service of Krsna, including; the fixing of autos, recording with dictaphones and tape recorders, airplanes, video cameras and computers, TV, construction, story-telling, printing works, lawn mowers, comic books, academic situations, counselling, eateries, public festivals, radio, novels, Hollywood films, music, and all of entertainment’s various expressions and escapes. This is complete renunciation.
