An Incident from the Great Juhu Saga

One of the fiercest battles ISCKON ever engaged in was getting the “Hare Krishna Land” in Juhu. In September 1973, municipal authorities, acting on bribe money, destroyed the small temporary temple on the land, and were burning the steel rods that had supported the concrete walls. One of the nearby residents came to his front porch, and laughed out loud. A devotee’s mother shouted to him, “In the same way you will also die by burning.” Within two years, it came to pass that this self-same man poured kerosene on his body, and set himself alight, thus committing suicide.
