Impersonalism & Atheism

There are some scientists who embrace today’s pervasive impersonalism as a kind of force, like valence, gravity or ‘universal energy.’ But impersonalism, according to one of Srila Prabhupada’s statements, is a form of atheism, and can be seen to exist in almost every faith in the world, i.e. God is not person. Here is one of Srila Prabhupada’s statements on this subject: “That is the attitude, everywhere we can see actually. Everyone is: “Oh, what is God? What is God?” especially in this age. So this impersonalism is another type of atheism, and this impersonal theory of the Absolute Truth has converted practically the major portion of the world into atheism. So therefore Lord Caitanya says that simply by cultivation of knowledge that “I am not this matter. I am not this matter. I am spirit soul,” that will not help.” (Lecture on Caitanya Caritamrita, Madhya-lila, Chapter 22, verses 21-28, New York, January 11, 1967)
