In Sri Brhad-Bhagavatamrta (Priyatama, the Most Beloved, BB 1.6.121) it is said in the commentary: “But when Krsna left for Mathura, Govardhana began sinking into the earth out of disappointment, and hunks of its peaks fell off and tumbled down its sides.” Some people say that Govardhana Hill sinks 12 inches into the ground every year. This may be inaccurate.
