Srila Prabhupada said publicly that Latin is derived from Sanskrit and that the words “maternal” and paternal” obviously derive from Sanskrit (matr-sabda and pitr-sabda. He declared that “Sanskrit is the mother of all languages.” (lecture on Bhagavad-gita 1. 2-3, London, 9 July 1973)
