In science classes it was never explained to us why nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen and other gas molecules and atoms were transparent. The same atomic “building blocks” — neutrons, protons, and other, supposedly present subatomic particles — are unseen. Why are atoms invisible, and why is air transparent?
