In Bhakti-Rasamrita Sindhu (Nectar of Devotion), Rupa Goswami explains that hot tears are generated by pain, suffering and fear (anger) and the cold tears are ones of spiritual ecstasy (jubilation). This is described in the 28th Chapter of the book entitled, “Existential Ecstatic Love.”
