Although the spiritual world is free from envy and misery, it is utopian to think that ISKCON will be free of quarrel. Srimad Bhagavatam (11.9.10) gives the example of bracelets on the arm of a young girl. “When many people live together in one place there will undoubtedly be quarreling. And even if only two people live together there will be frivolous conversation and disagreement. Therefore, to avoid conflict, one should live alone, as we learn from the example of the bracelets of the young girl.” The story is that the young girl removed many bracelets from her arms so that only one was left on each arm. By doing this, she insured that there would be no sound of bracelets crashing together. The clashing made a noise which she was afraid would disturb the newly arrive guests for whom she was preparing food.
